چکیده

Abstract Background Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) is the major determinant of cardiovascular disease burden. This study critically reviewed published literature and performed a meta-analysis to compare determine which other equations provide best means estimating LDL-c in clinical settings. Method English articles indexed PubMed, Science Open, Biomed central SpringerLink databases were searched with searches being conducted or after 2001 up date. According predefined inclusion exclusion criteria, 22 out 17,970 retrieved eligible for quantitative analysis. Data pooled using random-effects model, results are described as event rates (pooled correlation coefficient). Main body abstract All twelve showed positive respective direct low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol measurements. The estimates stronger between Martin’s equation measurement [0.96 (95% CI 0.94–0.98)] compared Friedewald’s method [0.94 0.92–0.96)]. At triglycerides levels > 400 mg/dl, established better performance (77.78%) than equation. In studies where mg/dl excluded still (83.33%) Short conclusion Our data suggest that Friedewald can serve more accurate estimate especially situations same racial background.

Prevalence of Hypercholesterolemia, High LDL, and Low HDL in Iran: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Background: Chronic and abnormal increase of different types of dyslipidemia leads to some important diseases, such as constriction and abstraction of vessels in various parts of the body, especially in the heart. High lipid profile, such as increased total cholesterol and LDL as well as decreased HDL are recognized as cardiovascular disease risk factors. The present study aimed to estimate the...

Green tea catechins decrease total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Green tea catechins (GTCs) have been studied in randomized control trials for their lipid-lowering effects. Studies, however, have been small and demonstrated conflicting results. The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials evaluating the relationship between GTCs and serum lipid levels, including total, low-density lipoprotei...

Quantifying effect of statins on low density lipoprotein cholesterol, ischaemic heart disease, and stroke: systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES To determine by how much statins reduce serum concentrations of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and incidence of ischaemic heart disease (IHD) events and stroke, according to drug, dose, and duration of treatment. DESIGN Three meta-analyses: 164 short term randomised placebo controlled trials of six statins and LDL cholesterol reduction; 58 randomised trials of cholestero...

Discordance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol with alternative LDL-related measures and future coronary events.

BACKGROUND Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is the traditional measure of risk attributable to LDL. Non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHDL-C), apolipoprotein B (apoB), and LDL particle number (LDL-P) are alternative measures of LDL-related risk. However, the clinical utility of these measures may only become apparent among individuals for whom levels are inconsistent (discord...
